Camp

Sea to Mountain Field Camp

Students will visit 20 sites distributed across NC. Environments as diverse as coastal beaches and dunes, flood plains, rift valleys, and steep mountain slopes subject to mass movement will be investigated. An extensive data set on the physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties of soils at each site will be made available for the students to study and interpret. The major soil forming processes for each soil then will be discussed in detail. Students will be challenged to test hypotheses, posed by the instructors, using the laboratory data and their own observations.
